We were even told we should write a book, so I guess we are getting somewhere. No it is not for charity, no we are not training for something, it is a comment on the beige: why sit at home watching TV on your sofa when there is so much out there to experience? When you get back to the office and someone asks what you did over the weekend would you rather discuss the football, the series you watched on a huge television whilst simultaneously tweeting and facebooking from tablet and phone, making sure you never miss a beat of modern life, or would you rather tell the story of how you joined a group of friends, hooked into some seat-belts, and towed your Sofa across southern England? I choose the latter.

Join a TeamCommentDo Explorers have a role in the modern world?
CommunityCommentExplorers have lost their appeal, tarred with the brush of colonialism and exploitation. Some would say there is no room for explorers in the modern world. So should we regain our sense of adventure and seek new challenges, or is this a male fantasy best consigned to history?
I'm honoured to be invited to a debate with amongst others the legendary explorer Pen Hadow on whether exploration has any future in the modern world...and I'd love an idea of what the EC community thinks. Yep, we're probably a biased crowd but I'd be really interested to share an idea of what EC members think, whether you'd call yourself an explorer or an armchair explorer, I'd like to know why this matters to you.
Thanks so much for your time.
