I am an Army veteran, Ex NHS nurse & now endurance athlete. In October 2024 I completed my 3rd big challenge to fundraise for charity, where I became the 1st person ever to wheel a standard wheelchair (manual chair with no batteries or add ons) from John O’Groats to Lands End. This was my 5th world record using my everyday wheelchair. Its a wheelchair built for shopping, not sport. During the event I climbed the hight of Mt Everest 1.5 times!
I also have 3 chronic pain conditions. One is called CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) I am in 8/10-10 pain all of the time. I opted to have my leg amputated because of it, but sadly the condition came back. So I started wheeling events like this 3 years ago to give me a focus and help as many charities as I can. This challenge was incredibly difficult. This is why no one has manage to do it before. I also have Fibromyalgia & nerve issues in my stump. I have had 23 surgeries so far, but I don't believe in letting the circumstances of life stop my helping others, so I have plans to do more events every year for as long as I can keep going.
On the 20th of August this year, I completed 10 ultra marathons in 10 days (again a world 1st for someone in an everyday wheelchair). The aim was to wheel from the last venu of the last womens rugby world cup in the UK (London) to this years starting venu (Sunderland). I did this to raise funds for Child fund - rugby. I was just awarded my 6th and 7th World record for this challenge. For the most ultramarathons in one week and the fastest ultramarathon.
Whilst preparing for this event, I was also organising & training for my biggest event yet & a huge world 1st for any sort of wheelchair. I hope to wheel myself 5000km from one end of America to the other. This will be a whopping 130 marathons! This will be taking place in early 2027. The start date will be the 1st of March and will take approximately 3.5 months of my wheeling a marathon every day. Whilst preparing for this, next July I will be attempting to become the 1st person ever to wheel a mountain stage of le tour de france, either Mont Ventoux or Alpe d'huez to show what can be done using an everyday wheelchair and hopefully galvanise support.
At the moment, I have full funding for the USA challenge from Team Forces, but am in desperate need of volunteers to help with planning, logistics and the actual support crew for the event itself. I was referred to you by the legend, Ann Daniels who has been advising me with regards to this event. She suggested reaching out to you to ask if I could join your network and to ask if you could help with finding people who would be willing to help with this challenge. It is going to be made into a feature length documentary as well. But the main part I am in need of to make this happen is people. A project manager and someone who knows the USA, who can plan the route. I know the states and dates of them but its literally the planning. Is this something that your members may consider, or you could help with at all.
Every event I do is firstly to help fundraise for charity, & to show others that if adversity strikes, they can still engage in sport. Sports kit is often expensive & unobtainable for so many. I want to show that you don't need it to engage in sport. If you have a pair of trainers, you can go for a walk or run, if you have a wheelchair, you can go for a wheel!
This is something I hope to carry on doing for years to come. I have managed to fundraise tens of thousands of pounds so far for amazing charities & hope these events will keep helping more charities and people in years to come.
So that's me! There is more information on the challenge and the route as it stands atm on my website below. I look forward to hearing from you.
