Hi there!
We’re Niklas and Filippo (@_beyondknots), two climbers and sailors on a mission to live our dream in the most sustainable way possible.
As passionate climbers, we’ve always dreamed of exploring the big walls of South America. But there was one problem, flying there didn’t feel right. Both of us studied Environmental Science, so hopping on a plane would have meant going against our values.
Then, during a climbing trip in Switzerland, the idea struck:
Why not go the ocean way?
So, we bought a boat... and now we’re sailing toward South America to climb, explore, and contribute to science along the way. Right now, we’re in Brest, preparing to cross the Bay of Biscay next month.
A central goal of our project is to combine adventure with meaningful scientific contribution. We are already in contact with an Italian professor with whom we plan to write our master’s thesis in the remote Cochamó Valley of Patagonia. In addition to this academic collaboration, we would love to partner directly with scientists who are interested in environmental field data, biodiversity monitoring, or other research opportunities along our route toward the southern tip of South America.
If you’re a researcher, a university, or part of a project that could benefit from real-world data collected from a small sailing vessel, we’d love to hear from you!
And if you’re an adventurer looking to share part of the journey, you’re also welcome aboard our 10 meter sailing vessel Ferrit!
cheers and thanks!
Fil and Nik
