Walking the length of New Zealand: Te Araroa. Needs team mates and advice

Join a TeamBelinda KirkComment

When walking through New Zealand's mountainous areas some time back on 3-5 day walks, I never liked returning to the towns and just wanted to get back into the wilds. So after meeting someone linking them together into a 6 week trek with hellicopter drops for food, I vowed to return....one day....Since then the Te Araroa trail has been formalised through the whole of the country, North and South. So with a career break and lust for getting out there, I am looking at doing this trail. However I'm also exploring other ways of walking the South Island, e.g. to get more of the mountains along the south west coast.

I'm keen to hear from people who have done such long distance treks with tips, as much as from those who think they may want to do something similar or even this trail itself in December 2014.

Gyre to Gaia - a sailing adventure with a purpose

CommunityBelinda KirkComment

Gyre to Gaia is an uplifting voyage that aims to explore our intriguing relationship with nature and the sea in particular with a focus on one of the most challenging ecological issues; ocean plastic pollution. Leg one will set sail from Falmouth in the UKon 17th September 2014 and head for the beautiful islands of the Azores.

Leg two departs the Azores on October the 4th and arrives on Lanzarote on the 12th. Gyre to Gaia is drawing together an inter-disciplinary crew, including designers, marine and materials scientists, students, philosophers, artists and writers, to sail from the UK to the Canary Islands, via the Azores. Through a carefully designed and facilitated journey to experience, experiment, discuss and reflect on how profoundly we need the sea; what an extraordinary, wonderful, diverse environment it is; what is happening to it; how lifestyle choices impact on it; and what we can do.We have drawn together an inter-disciplinary crew of artists, philosophers, photographers, designers and scientists.

Wilderness 72

CommunityBelinda KirkComment

Wilderness 72 is a sea kayaking expedition that aims to paddle 1000km down the longitude line 72. The route travels through some of the most wild and remote areas of Patagonia. The team is aiming to explore some of the biggest tidal glaciers coming of the ice cap and link the hundreds of fjord that make up the west coast of Chile.

We will be put to the test by the cold nights, Ice choked Fjords and fierce Patagonian winds. The team of three have five weeks to complete the expedition. Feel free to follow our adventure through our face book page or personal blogs.
