Join a TeamCommentDo Explorers have a role in the modern world?
CommunityCommentExplorers have lost their appeal, tarred with the brush of colonialism and exploitation. Some would say there is no room for explorers in the modern world. So should we regain our sense of adventure and seek new challenges, or is this a male fantasy best consigned to history?
I'm honoured to be invited to a debate with amongst others the legendary explorer Pen Hadow on whether exploration has any future in the modern world...and I'd love an idea of what the EC community thinks. Yep, we're probably a biased crowd but I'd be really interested to share an idea of what EC members think, whether you'd call yourself an explorer or an armchair explorer, I'd like to know why this matters to you.
Thanks so much for your time.

OtherCommentHave you got a hilarious travel story that deserves to be published?
CommunityCommentI am compiling a book of the most hilarious moments of travel humour, ideally that happened in fascinating locations around the world.
To do this, I need your funniest stories. The memories of these incidents should make you laugh out loud just thinking about them. Travel is rife with moments of side-splitting humour, often sparked by misunderstanding, mishap or mayhem. Please let me know if you have a story that might be suitable for the book. I only need outline details at this stage: where it happened, what happened and why it was so funny. You can get in touch at http://before-you-die.info/travel-humour-submissions/ If your story is selected, I will ask you to write up the story in a few hundred words so we can publish it. Don't worry, this wont be difficult (particularly if you follow our advice!), and I will in any case help with editing. The story will then appear in a book, and you will be published alongside other travellers and travel writers. Thank you very much for your help. I look forward to sharing hours of laughter and unforgettable, comical travel memories with you.
With best wishes,
Martin
