MY Great Escape is a brand new organisation supporting survivors of domestic abuse to get out into the great outdoors, have adventures and heal. Through physical challenge and the beauty of nature, MY Great Escape believes survivors can heal, build confidence and self-esteem. Their first expedition takes place in April, when they'll spend 2-3 nights sleeping under the stars and literally, conquering mountains.
They are looking to recruit six women who have survived their situations and are ready to challenge themselves in new ways. New ways which as well as being physically challenging will enable healing and growth, by using the power of nature and personal challenge.
Participants must be fit enough to hike at a steady pace for up to 8 hours a day for 2 days, you do not have to be an experienced hiker/mountaineer. There may be very light scrambling involved but no actual climbing.
The only costs to participants will be to provide their own boots and clothing (although they are in talks with suppliers so watch this space), and transport to/from the central meet up point.
A Mountain Leader, therapist, medic and camp manager will be joining the expedition. This is not a therapy session but should you need to talk a fully qualified and highly experienced therapist will be present.
MGE will take all steps possible to maintain your security & privacy: we will not reveal dates, routes or locations to anyone outside of MGE and the individual expedition team. However we cannot guarantee your safety, due to the nature of the adventure; we therefore ask you to think carefully about your own health and safety before you decide this is the right type of adventure for you.
Please get in touch no question is silly/adventuring can be done by anyone, please contact us if you are worried about your ability to attend/complete or to discuss anything.
