Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
Friday 18th - Sunday 20th May 2018
Sorry, this adventure is now fully booked! You can add your name to the waiting list below and you'll get an email if we have any cancellations.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the hills of Pen-y-ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m) in under 12 hours. If you think you're up to the challenge then join EC for this fantastic weekend exploring the Yorkshire Dales.
If you're looking for a hillwalking challenge in a more unusual and beautiful part of the UK then you'll struggle to beat the Yorkshire Three Peaks! The mountains are arranged in a triangle, with the River Ribble and two minor B roads between them, and the route has a total walking distance of 39.2km (24.5 miles) - but don't worry, the route is manageable by anyone of average fitness with some hillwalking experience.
You don't have to be super fit to complete this challenge however the more hillwalking experience you have under your belt, the easier you will find it on the day. Whether you're just starting out or training for a bigger challenge, everyone will enjoy this weekend, gain more confidence in mountain walking and come away with a great sense of achievement!
We also don't need to worry about navigation either as we'll have two experienced and qualified Mountain Leaders guiding us across the route on Saturday, so we can just relax and enjoy the stunning scenery over the Dales.
We'll aim to arrive at our accommodation in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park from 7pm on Friday evening. We have a few options for dinner (not included), most likely going together for a meal at a local pub depending on arrival times. After getting to know each other we'll then head to bed to get ready for the following day's challenge. We'll be starting very early on the Saturday morning - but our accommodation is right on the Yorkshire Three Peaks route so we can get started right outside our door!
We'll have up to 12 hours to complete the route although it can be done in as little as 8 hours and, on average, takes around 10 hours (the record is currently 2 hours 46 minutes and 3 seconds!) There'll be a home-cooked dinner ready for you when you return at the end of the day. On Sunday after a more relaxed start and enjoying breakfast together we'll be free to relax a bit more or we might decide to get out and explore more of the area before heading home.
Included in the price is two night's accommodation in a converted school house in Chapel-le-Dale; right on the Yorkshire Three Peaks route. Located at the foot of Ingleborough and Whernside, with superb views of both, the accommodation comprises lounge, dining room/kitchen, drying room and five bedrooms fitted with bunk beds. There are four shower rooms with hand basins and toilets.
There are three bunks in each bedroom sleeping 6 people, and each bed comes with a mattress and a pillow with a pillow cover and sheet. Please note that no blankets are provided so you'll need to bring your own sleeping bag or blanket, as well as a towel.
Your EC host will provide a hearty hot breakfast for you on Saturday morning to start your big day and a lighter breakfast on Sunday, as well as a home-cooked dinner on Saturday night. Please bring your own packed lunches for the weekend and enough snacks to keep your energy up. There will be a fridge at the accommodation for you to store your food.
You can download our recommended hiking kit list HERE.
Please make sure you bring the right footwear as it's a very long day out on Saturday, and you'll need to bring your lunch, enough snacks and water to keep you going all day too.
