Powering the Adventure Revolution

Winter Walking with Holly Budge
Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd February 2019

Sorry, this adventure is NOW FULLY BOOKED but you can still add yourself to the waiting list and be automatically notified if a place becomes available

Find out what it’s really like to climb Everest from adventurer and motivational speaker, Holly Budge. Explore the heart of Snowdonia in winter, learn a few practical winter walking skills and return home inspired by Holly’s experiences of what’s possible. No experience necessary.

OVERVIEW

World-record holder and Everest summiteer, Holly Budge, was the first woman to skydive Everest and the first person to race semi-wild horses 1,000 kilometres across Mongolia in just nine days. She was also part of a team who made a first ascent of Mount Zuchi in Mongolia (3,952m) and has raised over £300k for charity through her adventures so far. Now she is leading this unmissable, unique adventure for Explorers Connect and boy does she have some stories to share.

In a small group of 12, you'll get two days of winter mountain walking with Holly and another experienced mountain leader. Along the way Holly will share information on how to select winter walking equipment, some techniques for crossing snow, and even some skills used on Everest. On Saturday night Holly will talk more about her adventures with photos/film in the warmth of our lodge.

EC adventures are informal, friendly and great fun! They're made up of solo travellers, couples and small sets of friends with ages typically ranging from mid 20s to mid 40s but anyone over 18 years old and young at heart is welcome. EC adventures are a great way to meet like-minded people in a safe, welcoming and fun environment. For this particular adventure we'd recommend you have some hillwalking experience.

ITINERARY

You can arrive at the bunkhouse from 6pm on Friday, where your host and Holly will welcome you. After you've unpacked you'll walk to the Tyn y Coed Inn for drinks with others in the group.

On Saturday morning after a cooked breakfast you'll head out onto the hills. Exact routes will be decided depending on conditions and group preference, but you'll possibly tackle some of the nearby mountains such as the striking Glyderau range and the iconic Tryfan. After a full day on the mountains you'll enjoy a home-cooked meal back at the lodge together.

Sunday will be another day out on the hills with Holly and your mountain leader - there will be both half day and full day options to suit those who want to head off at lunchtime or those who want to stay until the late afternoon. Full days hikers can expect to finish around 4pm on Sunday, after which you'll be free to carry on exploring or head home.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND DRINK

You'll have exclusive use of a cosy lodge near Capel Curig, set in a beautifully secluded location with wonderful mountain views and only a five minutes walk from a local pub. More detailed directions and transport options will be provided to you nearer the time.

The rooms are shared, containing alpine style bunks with mattresses, but no bedding is provided, so please bring a pillow and your sleeping bag as well as your own towel.

A home-cooked breakfast will be provided on both mornings as well as dinner on Saturday. As people will arrive at different times on the Friday, please eat on the way or you're welcome to use the kitchen at the lodge. Please bring packed lunches with you for both Saturday and Sunday.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

This weekend has been designed for those who enjoy walking and who are active enough to make the most of two days in the mountains, but no specialist experience is required at all. It’s all about experiencing the rugged landscape of Snowdonia alongside some extraordinary human beings, and learning what’s possible when you put your mind to it. A kit list will be sent to you nearer the time.
