Powering an Adventure Revolution

Wild West Cliff Camping and Climbing
27th - 28th July 2019

This adventure is now fully booked. Click BOOK NOW to join the wait list and you will be notified if a place becomes available.

This is the ultimate two for one adventure - spend the day climbing the awesome sea cliffs of North Wales and spend the night camping on a ledge suspended in mid-air, high above the swirling sea… you’ll never forget this experience!

Although cliff camping and sea cliff climbing may seem dangerous, it is a very safe activity. Your instructors will set everything up and stay within reach the whole time to make sure you’re are safe, happy and comfortable. Overnight you’ll be sleeping on portaledges, which were invented to provide climbers with something flat to sleep on while they’re climbing multi-day, vertical routes up big walls. Imagine a hammock large enough to accommodate a few people made of super strong textiles - they’re surprisingly comfortable and relaxing, allowing you to sleep in places you wouldn’t otherwise expect to be able to! You’ll be on the Anglesey coast in northwest Wales, which frequently provides much warmer and drier conditions than anywhere else. If the weather does turn, the portaledges have windproof and waterproof covers so it will be just like being in a tent - you’ll stay warm and dry all night.

Recommended by: Explorers Connect’s previous Adventure Coordinator Alex, who went on this adventure last year and said that it’s one of the best things she’s ever done! Check out her blog about her experience here.

Day 1 (Saturday): In the morning, you’ll meet your instructors for a briefing and intro to your day of climbing. You’ll get to try all sorts of routes and receive top tips to improve your movement, knots and rope rigging. You’ll finish climbing around 4:30pm, when you’ll have the chance to relax at the cliffside as your instructors set up your portaledge. You'll abseil down in time to catch a (hopefully!) glorious western sunset and enjoy a hearty hot meal and a night cap before settling down to sleep. If you need to go to the toilet during the night it’s not a problem - the instructors will help you go up and back down.

Day 2 (Sunday): In the morning, you’ll leave your sleeping bags for some hot coffee and breakfast, with a chance to stretch and admire the beautiful morning views around you before heading back up to solid ground.

An awesome adventure with great company and our confident professional friendly fun instructor... The location couldn’t have been better
It was a great weekend and would recommend cliff camping to other members of EC. The instructor gave really helpful tips during our rock climbing.
We were well looked after, the food was lovely and the whole experience was fantastic
I absolutely loved this adventure - not far off the beaten track but far enough that you felt this was your own private unspoilt spot.
Sam was brilliant and really put us at ease! I got to see the moon go down!
