South Downs Autumn Hiking Weekend
Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th November 2018
“The Downs… too much for one pair of eyes, enough to float a whole population in happiness, if only they would look" - Virginia Woolf
This November come and relax in the beauty of the South Downs National Park, known as one of 'Britain's Breathing Spaces’. On this leisurely hiking weekend the views will be panoramic as you take in the expanse of green rolling fields, ancient woodlands and river valleys.

With over 3,300km of rights of way, the South Downs National Park offers a landscape both diverse and breathtaking, but remaining accessible to all with gentle climbs, easy navigation and good quality paths - ideal for walking all year around.
The South Downs Way is one of 15 National Trails of England and Wales and is also the only National Trail to lie entirely within a National Park. For 160 kilometres it stretches from the ancient cathedral city of Winchester through to the white chalky cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head at Eastbourne. From rolling hills to bustling market towns, the South Downs National Park’s landscapes cover 1,600km squared of breathtaking views and many hidden gems. On a clear day you can see paragliders and buzzards above you, spot butterflies on the woodland paths and enjoy postcard villages, traditional country pubs and flourishing vineyards.
On this adventure you'll enjoy two full days of guided hiking along the South Downs Way at a relaxed pace, with lots of time to explore the delights of the National Park - at this time of year you'll avoid the tourists and maybe even have parts of the trail all to yourselves!
EC adventures are informal, friendly and great fun! They're made up of singles, couples and small sets of friends with ages typically ranging from mid 20s to mid 40s but anyone over 18 years old and young at heart is welcome. Whether it's your first time exploring the outdoors or you're an adventure professional, EC adventures are a great way to meet like-minded people in a safe, welcoming and fun environment.
You'll meet your EC host at the accommodation after 6pm on Friday, who will show you to your room. After you're settled in you can spend the rest of the evening relaxing and getting to know everyone. On Saturday morning after breakfast you'll head right out from the door onto the South Downs Way for a full day of walking - the routes will be decided nearer the time but will be relaxed and with plenty of stops and breaks so that you can really get the most out of the beautiful features of your surroundings. In the late afternoon you'll make your way back to the hostel where your host will prepare a delicious home-cooked dinner.
On Sunday you'll walk a different route exploring some other sights of the South Downs way - you might drive to another part of the National Park or walk straight from the door. There will be half-day and full-day walk options so you have some freedom to choose what you'd like to do with your day. The full-day walkers will finish in the afternoon around 4pm after which you can make your way home or carry on exploring!
You'll be staying in shared rooms at the YHA Truleigh Hill, right on the South Downs way and situated in a quiet spot with spectacular views. Set in the South Downs National Park, just inland from coastal towns of Shoreham, Brighton, Hove and Worthing, the hostel has an open garden well away from busy roads. The hostel also had a makeover in 2015, so all its facilities are modern and comfortable, and you'll have the whole place to yourselves - a great place to relax after a long day walking!
