Ski & Snowboarding Trip
19th - 26th January 2020
Our annual ski and snowboarding trip is back. Explore the hidden gem of La Rosière, with all the fun of an Explorers Connect trip, all abilities welcome.
Join our renowned ‘EC Ski’ trip for its 8th year and have a blast exploring the slopes with a lovely bunch of folk.
Fancy dress day, although completely optional, is encouraged. Stay tuned for this year’s theme. Our group tends to ski in groups and then meet for lunch, or later for après, so no-one is left behind. Group or private tuition can be arranged. We return to our chalet in the evening for a three-course, home-cooked dinner.
La Rosière has some great bars and restaurants and there are live bands and DJs throughout the season - one is open until 2am, should all the fresh mountain air make you feel the need to party.
The ski lift is a short five minute walk away from our chalets, where there are shops, bars, a little supermarket, and a few clothes and gift shops too. This fast 6-person chair whisks us up to the main resort.
The unspoiled, south facing resort of ‘La Ros’ still has low accommodation numbers which means the slopes are sunny and quiet – yippee! So we’re getting in there now before everyone hears about it.
We have two adjacent chalets in the same block this year, based in Les Eucherts which is right next to La Rosière town. To get there it’s two minutes on the bus or a 10-minute woodland walk nicknamed ‘Narnia’, the bus runs into the evening too.
This trip is suitable for all levels of skiers and boarders. La Rosière is known for its great snow conditions, high and uncrowded pistes, a true gem of a village resort, linked with La Thuile in Italy, and making up the Espace San Bernardo ski area - all covered by your ski pass. Authentic Italian pizza for lunch anyone?
Most of the skiing is above 1850m with plenty of wide gentle blues and a good mix of steeper runs for intermediates, including five new red pistes opened last season. For the experts, there are two snow parks, along with fifteen black runs, easily-accessible off piste and wide powder fields, and even the option to heli-ski in Italy.
CHALET AND LOCATION
Our spacious chalets are in the Les Eucherts area of La Rosiere, 400m walk from the chair lift that gives you access to the main ski area. Equipment can be stored in the hire shop for no additional charge if you don’t want to carry it back and forth.
Thanks to the chalet’s south-facing orientation, the rooms are bathed in sunshine all day long, so you can sit out on the balcony and drink in the views of the Haute Tarentaise valley.
The chalets are well designed and spacious, with high beamed ceilings and a large open-plan living area with access to a terrace. Bedrooms comprise of twins, doubles and a triple, sharing single-sex rooms on a first-come first served basis. We also have shared use of a wellness area with outdoor hot tub and sauna, and fully equipped ski room and drying facilities.
Food is on a half-board basis with breakfast and afternoon tea everyday, and a 3-course evening meal with wine on 6 days. (Breakfast has a hot option on 5 days, 2 days self-service) Dietary requirements must be notified at least 4 weeks prior to departure.
On the first Sunday you’ll arrive at Geneva airport in the afternoon where you'll be met by Belinda, your host (see below). After you've all arrived you'll take a private minibus transfer (approx 2.5-3hrs) to the chalet. For the rest of the evening you can relax and wind down at the chalet before enjoy dinner together, or get ahead and sort out ski/board hire.
Each day will start with a filling breakfast, and then you can go to straight up into the pistes, snow parks or head into Italy, unless you want a more leisurely start. After you've explored and worked up a thirst, we can all meet up on the slopes for lunch, or later in La Rosière for a drink before heading back to the chalet for afternoon tea. Make use of the outdoor hot tub or sauna to ease your legs, or you might choose to stay out until dinner. In the evenings, you can head out to some of the great local bars and restaurants. Heading to Italy is a must and also offers great skiing.
On the final day we'll check out of the chalet together by 10:30am, either going back to the airport with the group transfer or you might want to arrange your own transport and spend another day on the slopes.
Your host for this adventure will be explorer and Explorers Connect founder Belinda Kirk. The leading voice promoting the benefits of adventure on wellbeing, Belinda uses her life-long passion for adventure and the great outdoors to offer life-changing experiences to other people.
As with all Explorers Connect trips, every detail has been carefully considered to bring to life our ethos of gently encouraging people outside their comfort zone to discover just what they are capable of, whilst ensuring everyone is having a lovely time and making new friends to go on adventures with in the future.
