Over and Under Easter Adventure
Friday 19th - Monday 22nd April 2019
The best way to see the Yorkshire Dales National Park in one action-packed weekend - spend your long Easter bank holiday abseiling and traversing through epic underground caves and caverns, get up some of the most iconic mountains in Yorkshire & splash down rivers on a thrilling canyoning session hosted by explorer & EC founder Belinda Kirk.
More people have been to the top of Everest than down the depths of the deepest caves in Yorkshire! With 2,500 caves in the Dales alone to explore you can enjoy underground abseiling, ladder climbing, large open caverns and huge formations of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains and flowstone. The Yorkshire Dales National Park hosts the longest cave system in Britain, The Three Counties, and the largest underground chamber of Gaping Gill. Beginners can explore Long Churns with its famous squeeze called the Cheesepress, which is entirely optional for those that want to bypass it! On this weekend you’ll get the chance to explore underground as a beginner, with the routes and caving session tailored to you.
Above ground, you’ll also get the chance to take in some outstanding scenery - your accommodation is in prime position to get a 360-degree view of the magnificent Yorkshire 3 peaks (Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent). Nearby are the famous waterfalls of Ingleton, and a short drive away are the famous Malham Cove and Gordale Scar. There is the option to join a guided hike in the mountains or tap into your adrenaline junkie and opt for an exhilarating session canyoning
EC adventures are informal, friendly and great fun! They're made up of singles, couples and small sets of friends with ages typically ranging from mid 20s to mid 40s but anyone over 18 years old and young at heart is welcome. Whether it's your first time exploring the outdoors or you're an adventure professional, EC adventures are a great way to meet like-minded people in a safe, welcoming and fun environment.
Friday: On your first night arrive at your accommodation in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park from 7pm on Friday evening. Your EC host Belinda will welcome you and settle you into your room and then you can either bring your own food to eat at the bunkhouse or head out to the local pub just 5 minutes walk down the road. You’ll spend the evening getting to know each other and preparing for your weekend of adventure.
Saturday: You’ll spend a full day underground with your experienced guides exploring some of the most the stunning caves and geological features that Yorkshire has to offer - there are miles of rifts, tunnels and chambers waiting to be discovered. Prepare to get dirty, possibly wet, but have some incredible fun - you might be wading through water, climbing underground waterfalls and sliding through mud. The caving session on this weekend is aimed at beginners with little or no experience, so there won’t be any technically difficult sections, and there will be alternative routes available if you don’t fancy getting squeezed… When you get back to the bunkhouse Saturday night you’ll get a tasty home-cooked dinner and can spend the evening relaxing in the lounge or head down to the pub for a nightcap
Sunday: After breakfast, depending on your appetite for an adrenaline rush you’ll get the choice of either going on a day walk in the Yorkshire Dales National Park or spend a few hours getting wet and wild canyoning down a local river. Walking routes will be weather and group dependent but you’ll be taken to spots with the best views and the most spectacular features. Sunday will finish with hot showers and enjoying another home-cooked meal as a group.
Monday: You’ll enjoy a cooked breakfast together at the lodge before having the rest of the day to explore the National Park or head on home. If you’re hanging around your host will give you plenty of advice on what there is to do nearby.
