7.30pm Talk by Mina Holder about distance-running adventures
In 2015 Mina Holder became the first woman to run the Te Araroa trail, a 2031 mile trail running the length of New Zealand through forests and mountains, along beaches and past volcanoes.
Amazingly, Mina comes from an un-sporty background - she only took up running when she was 25 because she was challenged to do the Bath Half Marathon by her husband. After hobbling over the finish line and carried away with the feeling of success she signed up to do the famous desert running challenge, the Marathon des Sables. Completing this event without dying in the Sahara "meant that feeling of 'anything is possible' grew a little bit bigger!" In 2013 she moved to New Zealand and heard about the Te Araroa trail (this is Maori for 'The Long Pathway'). Only 2 men had run its full length and, at that time, no woman had. The idea for a bonkers challenge was born!
