Lundy Island Escape
Saturday 15th - Tuesday 18th June 2019

Join EC for an extra-special island escape on Lundy - a unique place you can cover from end-to-end on foot.
Explore with guided walks, specialist wildlife talks, a snorkel safari and incredible diverse wildlife - bring you binos - ‘tis puffin season!

OVERVIEW

A world apart - escape everyday life and immerse yourself in nature on this island get-away. Explore over ground and underwater with expert-guided walks and specialist talks on the island’s incredible array of flora and fauna: seals, puffins, razorbills, deer, wild ponies and the Lundy Cabbage to name a few. Also, our very own snorkel safari, a chance to swim with seals and even go letterboxing (the original geocaching).

Explore the length and breadth of Lundy’s high rugged cliffs and gentler grassy slopes, discover the diversity of plant and wildlife earning Lundy its SSSI status and England’s first Marine Conservation Zone. At night, without competition from streetlights, it is truly dark and the stars shine bright. Did we mention there are no vehicles on Lundy? Bliss!

EC adventures are informal, friendly and great fun! They're made up of singles, couples and small sets of friends with ages typically ranging from mid 20s to mid 40s but anyone over 18 years old and young at heart is welcome. Whether it's your first time exploring the outdoors or you're an adventure professional, EC adventures are a great way to meet like-minded people in a safe, welcoming and fun environment.

ITINERARY

This Island Escape starts 8.30 am on Saturday morning, where we meet to check in on the Ferry pier in Ilfracombe to take the crossing on the MS Oldenburg, Lundy’s very own ship. It is essential that you arrive in time to check in for this crossing.

Less than 2 hours later, we will arrive and make the walk up the to our accommodation, check in is from 4pm.

Seek out ancient settlements, spot sea birds, take a guided walk, or mosey the three-mile length of the Island at your leisure. Our group will have the chance for letterboxing (the original geocaching) to join guided walks and even a snorkel safari!

Adventure film screening and group dining included makes for a fun EC group trip.

June is the perfect time to spot puffins – remember to bring your binoculars.

Returning to the mainland on Tuesday afternoon, the MS Oldenburg docks at Bideford at 6.30pm, with a coach ride included back to Ilfracombe for 7.30pm.

Ferry travel is not included, (£70pp return) or arrive in style by helicopter!
(A booking link for our group will be generated from the ferry company in early March and linked here.)

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND DRINK

We will have sole use of The Barn, a cosy converted bunkhouse. The dormitory rooms are lined with varnished wood and its large sitting room has an open fire to keep us snug in the evenings. One of the island’s best views can be seen from the gallery. (Rooms will be shared, and have comfy single beds in single sex rooms). Bed linen and towels are provided.

EC will provide three home cooked breakfasts, two home cooked dinners, and we’ll eat together at The Marisco Tavern Lundy’s only pub on the other night (not included). Meals will be hearty but basic, as we have to carry everything in on foot… if you have space in your bag to help that would be appreciated by your EC host!

You will need to bring your own supplies for packed lunches and snacks/drinks. There is one pub and one shop on the island.

Pack lightly as after leaving the mainland you will need to carry everything with you on the boat and up the cliffs on to the island.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

You'll need to be able to walk up the jetty and cliffs to the accommodation with all of your kit in your rucksack, and enjoy three days’ coastal walking.
