Lundy Island Escape
16th-19th May 2020
Join us for an extra-special island escape on Lundy - a unique place you can cover from end-to-end on foot. We will explore with expert guides and warden-led walks, a snorkel safari and incredible, diverse wildlife - bring you binos - ‘tis puffin season!
Duration: 4 days | Location: Devon | Price: from £230
A world apart - escape everyday life and immerse yourself in nature on this four day island get-away. Explore overground and underwater with expert-guided walks to bring to life the island’s incredible array of flora and fauna: seals, puffins, razorbills, deer, wild ponies and the Lundy Cabbage to name a few. We will even go on our very own snorkel safari!
Your expert guide - the one-and-only explorer and Explorers Connect founder, Belinda Kirk - will show you every hidden corner of the Island. From high rugged cliffs to gentle grassy slopes, you’ll discover the diversity of plant and wildlife that has earned Lundy its SSSI status. We will seek out ancient settlements, spot sea birds, take a guided walk, and you’ll have the chance to mosey the three-mile length of the island at your leisure. May is also the perfect time to spot puffins - remember to bring your binoculars.
At night, without competition from streetlights, it is truly dark and the stars shine bright. Did we mention there are no vehicles or TVs on Lundy? Ahhh, bliss!
Explore on land, underwater, by day and by night…. you’ll see it all. And with group dining included, it’s set up to be a fun and sociable trip.
Day 1 (Saturday): 2020 ferry times are yet to be set. However, on Saturday morning we will meet around 8.00am in Ilfracombe to check in for our ferry crossing on the MS Oldenburg, Lundy’s very own ship. It is essential that you arrive in time to check in for this crossing. Less than 2 hours later, we will arrive on Lundy Island’s jetty. On arrival, all our luggage will be taken on to our accommodation, while we are treated to a guided tour by the island warden, when we will find out all about Lundy’s history. After which we will check into our accommodation and enjoy a home-cooked dinner. At dusk, we will head out for a walk to see the island’s deer.
Day 2 & 3 (Sunday & Monday): Throughout our time on the island, Belinda will really lift the lid on the nooks and crannies you might otherwise overlook. Highlights will include our very own snorkel safari, dawn and dusk wildlife spotting, swimming with seals, and puffin spotting. Plus some obligatory Explorers Connect challenges and surprises along the way.
Day 4 (Tuesday): Our fourth day on the island will be a leisurely day when we’ll continue exploring before returning to the mainland in the evening. As before, 2020 ferry times are yet to be set, but we estimate arrival back in Ilfracombe at around 7.30pm.
Please note, that although this hasn’t happened in the summer months for many years, ferry sailings can be affected by adverse weather. Please bear this in mind when planning your onward travel on return to the mainland.
Your host for this adventure will be explorer and Explorers Connect founder Belinda Kirk. The leading voice promoting the benefits of adventure on wellbeing, Belinda uses her life-long passion for adventure and the great outdoors to offer life-changing experiences to other people.
As with all Explorers Connect trips, every detail has been carefully considered to bring to life our ethos of gently encouraging people outside their comfort zone to discover just what they are capable of, whilst ensuring everyone is having a lovely time and making new friends to go on adventures with in the future.
