Lake District Escape
6th - 8th March 2020
Location is everything on this unique adventure. Our lodge is remote, accessible only on foot and surrounded by the peaks of Great Gable and Kirk Fell in the heart of the Lake District National Park. It’s a truly remarkable spot.
Converted from a former shepherds bothy, our lodge is fresh and clean following a refurbishment but retains the rustic charm that makes it the most sought after hut in the area. Located in a traffic-free valley, the lodge is as tranquil as a stay in the Lakes gets offering superb access to nearby peaks including Great Gable, Pillar, Red Pike and Steeple.
The weekend will start on Friday afternoon/evening where you'll meet your host and walk into the lodge together. With no road access for several miles in any direction, bring a rucksack and pack light as you will carry everything in for the weekend. Don't worry we will help you with this and advise on what to bring (and what not to bring!) Expect a weekend away from the modern world, out of the reach of traffic, phones and internet and staying in an 'off grid' location powered by renewable energy.
Day 1 (Friday): Because there is no road access to the lodge we will meet at a car park on Friday to walk in together. The walk will take approximately two hours. For those able to take Friday off work to make the most of our amazing location, a first group will meet at the car park between 2-3pm. To ensure that everyone can walk in to the lodge with our host we will have a second walk-in group later. Whichever group you will be walking with please ensure you bring a good torch.
Day 2 & 3: You will spend the weekend exploring the remote valley and the craggy mountains which surround it. You will be spoilt for choice with options for walking which will depend on the weather and the group. We will likely take a longer mountain walk on Saturday making the most of the daylight, perhaps heading to Great Gable at the head of the valley for panoramic views over the surrounding radiating valleys. We will walk from our doorstep on both days allowing us to make the most of our fantastic location.
ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD
We will have sole use of a rustic mountain lodge. Recently renovated, the lodge is clean and tidy but still stunningly remote and with rustic charm and a wood burning stove to keep us snug in the evening. Bed linen is provided but please bring a towel with you. Rooms will be shared and have comfy, adult sized bunk beds. We will be providing cooked food for the weekend from Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunchtime so please let us know if you have any dietary requirements. You will need to bring two packed lunches. Please also be ready to help us carry the food in – so leave a little space in your rucksacks.
