Lake District Escape
6th - 8th March 2020
Join our micro-expedition to circumnavigate the Ennerdale Valley in the heart of the Lake District. From our base camp, a remote lodge accessible only on foot, we will explore the surrounding ring of peaks including Great Gable and Kirk Fell
Duration: 2.5 days | Location: Lake District | Price: from £179
Converted from a former shepherd’s bothy, our base camp is fresh and clean following a refurbishment but retains the rustic charm that makes it the most sought after hut in the Lake District. Located in a traffic-free valley, its as remote as a stay in the Lakes gets.
This is the base from which we will attempt to summit the mountains around us including Great Gable, Kirk Fell, Pillar, Hay Stacks & High Crag. The micro-expedition is led by two trained guides and the group is small (12 places max) to ensure a truly adventurous experience.
The adventure starts on Friday afternoon/evening when you'll meet your guide to walk into the lodge together. With no road access for several miles in any direction, bring a rucksack and pack light as you will carry everything in for the weekend. Don't worry we will help you with this and advise on what to bring (and what not to bring!) A can-do attitude and an enjoyment of walking is all that is necessary, no specialist experience or kit needed.
Expect a break away from the modern world, out of the reach of traffic, phones and internet and staying in an 'off grid' location powered by renewable energy.
Day 1 (Friday): Because there is no road access to the lodge we will meet at a car park on Friday to walk in together. The walk will take approximately two hours. For those able to take Friday off work to make the most of our amazing location, a first group will meet at the car park between 2-3pm. To ensure that everyone can walk in to the lodge with our host we will have a second walk-in group later. Whichever group you will be walking with please ensure you bring a good torch.
Day 2 & 3: We will spend Saturday and Sunday exploring the remote valley and the craggy mountains which surround it. Our aim is to circumnavigate the valley via the five main surrounding peaks, including the iconic Great Gable, however this will depend on the weather. Expect panoramic views over the surrounding radiating valleys and lakes. We will walk from our doorstep on both days allowing us to make the most of our fantastic location.
