Explore Gower Coast
8th - 10th November 2019
We’re going off the beaten track with this hiking weekend on the stunning Gower Peninsula, as we explore lesser-known nooks and crannies - by day and by night - and warm our cockles around a campfire on the beach.
Join Explorers Connect for this hiking weekend on the Gower Peninsula, South Wales. We will make the most of beautiful location with campfires on the beach and scenic guided walks each day, down less-trodden paths, to explore the area’s beautiful and contrasting coastline.
Dependent on group preferences, our walks could take us along high ridges with far reaching views, dramatic and rocky clifftops, sweeping beaches, quiet wooded headlands, or by a ruined castle. At low tide we can cross the rocky causeway to Worm’s Head - a narrow spit with incredible views that juts out into the sea. We’ll go beyond the official path, and tread carefully down to the waters edge to see the variety of wildlife that live there, including grey seals, peregrines and choughs.
Day 1 (Friday): Arrival is from 6pm, join us for a warming supper at 8pm. You’ll spend the evening getting to know each other and setting out under the cover of darkness for an evening stroll along the beach, right outside the door of our lodge - a converted lifeboat station.
Day 2 (Saturday): A cooked breakfast will set you up for the day. Spend the day on a guided hike taking in some of the Area’s Outstanding Natural Beauty and return for a delicious home-cooked dinner. (Approx 7-8 hrs walking).
Gather around the beach campfire toasting marshmallows, look out for fireworks and, if you like, join in some glow in the dark games.
Day 3 (Sunday): Explore the nearby area after a delicious continental breakfast. A half-day hike will be planned to take into account group preferences and more of the area’s best bits. (Approx. 4-5 hrs walking).
