Devon Lighthouse Escape - Weekend 2
Thursday 14th - Sunday 17th March 2019

Join EC’s founder & explorer Belinda Kirk on a long weekend in the truly extraordinary location of a renovated lighthouse perched both 100 metres above the crashing waves and 100 metres below the cliff top. With dramatic coastal views, past sightings from the lighthouse windows include dolphins, porpoise, sea birds and peregrine falcons in mid-flight. We're also running this adventure over the previous weekend.

Join us for a weekend in Devon staying at one of EC's favourite venues. This is a luxury trip with a small group of just ten staying in truly spectacular and unique accommodation. Rooms are single, double or twin and furnished to a high standard.

We’ll be able to walk straight from our lighthouse on to the South West Coast Path. This area has the highest sea cliffs in England as well as rivers and waterfalls in wooded valleys and pretty coastal villages. Expect dramatic days out walking on the coast and returning for relaxed evenings in comfortable accommodation with fantastic views.

Previous guests have spotted peregrine falcons in mid flight, buzzards, stonechat and a host of sea birds as well as deer, sheep and ponies on the moor. Woolacombe beach is one of the best in Devon and is ideal for surfing. The beautiful village of Porlock with its weir is just a short and delightful car drive away and Exmoor is a delight to explore.

You're welcome to arrive at the accommodation from 5pm on Thursday afternoon. Look out for your EC host Belinda who will welcome you, allocate your room and let you settle in. We'll spend Thursday evening relaxing and getting to know each other. After breakfast on Friday and Saturday, we'll head out for local walks along the South West Coast Path which is right on our doorstep before returning to the lighthouse for dinner and more relaxation. Plans for Sunday can be decided over the weekend but will typically be another shorter walk or perhaps a local visit.

This unique building is situated on the Exmoor Heritage Coast and offers a luxurious style of accommodation that is ideal for those who loves remoteness and extraordinary scenery. You may get a chance to see dolphins, porpoise and gannets fishing at high tide from the lighthouse. which is still operating, and was automated in 1994, but you may be relieved to hear that the foghorn is no longer in use!

Spread over two floors, on the upper floor the accommodation has a kitchen and dining room, sitting room, snug, boot room, six bedrooms (two twins, two singles and two doubles) and bathroom with separate shower cubicle. On the lower floor there is a shower room, laundry room and games room with doors out to a balcony. All bedding is provided so you'll just need to bring your own towel.

Rooms available are one single, two twins and two doubles, which are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. As soon as you book please email Rowan (rowan@explorersconnect.com) to let us know whether you would like a single, twin or double.

Due to people arriving at different times on Thursday, we'd suggest eating before you get here but we'll have a glass of wine ready for your arrival. Your EC host Belinda will prepare a home-cooked breakfast each morning and tasty evening meals on Friday and Saturday evenings. You'll need to bring packed lunches for the weekend but there will be a fridge to store your food.

This is a laid-back adventure and all of our walks go straight out from the lighthouse door along the amazing South West coast path. The path itself goes up and down so do expect some hills but the walks are suitable for anyone of average fitness. Please note that the lighthouse is located at the top of a cliff with steep steps going down to the entrance and the paths go along the sides of hills with some steep drops so if you have severe vertigo this trip may not be suitable for you.

  • Three days guided walks along the South West Coast Path and around the local area

  • Three freshly made breakfasts (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

  • Two home-cooked dinners on Friday and Saturday night

These comments came from guests on our two 2018 lighthouse weekends which scored 9.8 and 10.0 in their post-event surveys:

A well organised event - our host was delightful, always helpful and smiling. The venue was fantastic. As a ‘lighthouse geek’ it was dreamy!
I had an amazing time on the EC Lighthouse weekend - the location was stunning, the lighthouse was such a unique and special place to stay!
Stunning location and views. Accommodation was warm and cosy. Alex was a super host and the team was so friendly.
