In July 2020, 150 adventurous people will gather together for a weekend in a ruined castle on the coast to try their hand at bucket loads of adventure activities, to meet other adventurous people, and to generally have a rip-roaring time exploring by day and partying by night.

Named by the UK Festival Awards as one of The Best Non-Music Festivals, we had a ‘fallow year’ in 2019 and are now back in full force, with a stellar line-up for 2020.

There will be opportunities to climb, paddle, explore, shoot, build, leap, splash and accelerate on all sorts of new secret adventures. Needless to say, the Base Camp Festival slackline and mega Jenga tower will be returning too.

We are keeping precise details a surprise: on arrival you will find out which carefully curated activities your weekend will be filled with, and we guarantee you’ll do something you’ve never done before! Simply let us know when you book if you are uncomfortable with heights or being in open sea, and we’ll take care of the rest. What better adventure than a mystery?!

In the evening, we’ll dance at a silent disco within the castle ruins, listen to tales of inspiration, chew the fat to the sounds of acoustic guitar, and enjoy more surprises.

Day 1 (Friday 10th July): You are welcome to arrive from 5pm, when you’ll be met by your Explorers Connect hosts, given a pack of information with your schedule of activities for the weekend, and directed to the field where you can pitch up your tent. Food will be available to buy on site, or you are free to make your own camp dinner. The first evening will be a chance to say hello to people, before the action begins on Saturday morning.

Day 2 (Saturday 11th July): A hot breakfast will be served from around 8am, before activities start at around 9am. From here, your weekend will be ram-packed with adventures that have been carefully chosen and already arranged for you - all included in your ticket price. A hearty warm dinner will be served back at the castle at 6.30pm, after which we’ll settle down to inspiring talks from explorers, before donning our dancing boots for a silent disco, to party into the night.

Day 3 (Sunday 12th July): Another hot breakfast will be served at around 8am. You’ll enjoy yet more carefully coordinated adventures until early afternoon. We’ll join together for group photo around lunchtime, before the festival ends at 4pm. Everyone then needs to be off site by 5pm.

From a world record breaking ocean row with her mum, to documentary filmmaking in the most remote islands in the world, Sally Kettle has been an adventurer for over a decade. Come and listen to her stories of hurricanes, shark attacks and blue footed boobie babies, and discover the ups and downs of a life lived less ordinary.

Liam Kirkham Base Camp Festival Explorers Connect.jpg

226 miles. 13 days. One kayaker. And one Grand Canyon. In 2016 Liam completed a solo paddle of the Colorado river, a powerful, pushy beast running through the belly of the Grand Canyon, one of the natural seven wonders of the world. Come and listen to Liam talk of dealing with big white water, freezing nights and intense solitude.

Sophie Montagne was part of the first female team to ski across the Antarctic continent, coast-to-coast and using muscle power alone. The British Army’s Ice Maidens skied a total of 1,704km, battling temperatures as low as -56C and storms with wind speeds in excess of 100kph. Expecting the unsupported journey to take 75 days, they crossed the finish line on 20th January 2018, an astonishing 14 days ahead of schedule. Their 61 day journey set three new world records

We will be setting up camp within the grounds of a stunning ruined castle overlooking the sea of Gower peninsula, South Wales. There is a flat field for camping and plenty of space for us to make ourselves at home. The address will be released to ticket holders closer to the time.

Tasty camp-cooked breakfast will be provided on both mornings as well as dinner on Saturday night. Vegans are very much catered for. You just need to bring your own packed lunches and snacks.

We will share more details of our venue for the weekend closer to the time, but we understand you need to have a few clues to arrange transport!

By car: There is plenty of parking at the venue, which is 2 hours from Bristol or roughly 4 hours from London. Parking costs £10 per vehicle (car or campervan), which is an optional extra on booking. Campervans will have a designated area within the campsite.

Lift shares: There will be a private Facebook group for people going to the Festival, where you can see if anyone is going from your area with a spare space in their car. Access to the Facebook group will be given after booking.

Public transport: The venue is a 30 minute drive from Swansea train station. There will be a minibus leaving the station at 6pm on Friday, returning from the venue at 4pm on Sunday - £10 per person each way. Minibus places are only available to those who have booked them in advance. Let us know that you would like a space on booking, and we will arrange to take payment by phone. You can also take a taxi from the station, which costs around £20, or take a bus and then a 30 minute walk along country lanes.
