Teammates Wanted to Support Ocean Swim

Join a TeamBelinda KirkComment

I am looking for volunteers to provide safety support cover for my intensive training ahead of my Balearic Swim Challenge. Later this year I will be swimming solo and non-stop between the major Balearic Islands and mainland Spain (Menorca to Mallorca, Mallorca to Ibiza and finally Ibiza to mainland Spain).

To prepare for this huge challenge I have a very gruelling training programme over the coming three months (mid July - mid Oct 2015) and I need experienced sea kayakers and RIB drivers to provide safety cover during my sea swims (I train 6 days a week for between 3 - 16 hours per day). I will be doing the majority of my training out of my training base in Colònia de Sant Jordi in south east Mallorca but I will also be training in UK during August where the water temperature will be closer to what I will face in the winter months here. First aid skills and VHF licence would be useful, and social media and photography/videography skills and experience would also be helpful.

The most important criteria is having a positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to get stuck in. Our team motto is 'Nothing Hard is Easy' and you'll soon find out why as it is inevitable that we encounter a range of challenges when marking on a project of this magnitude with limited resources but we have a lot of fun along the way.

We have a 5.2-m Valiant 520 RIB (50HP outboard) and a 4.7-m Touryak sea kayak and all the necessary kit and safety equipment. Although if you have a sea kayak or RIB in the UK that would be useful as we have shipped ours to Mallorca.

Board and lodging can be provided in Mallorca but unfortunately we don't have any budget to cover travel expenses or any other incidentals. You would also be responsible for providing your own travel insurance. It is going to be a amazing adventure and we're going to raise a lot of money and awareness for some great marine-related charities so if you'd like to get involved please get in touch.
